Overseas pupils are welcomed into the Sibford School community and benefit from the wide variety of cultural and academic opportunities available.
The school has a specialist ESOL department (English to Speakers of Other Languages) staffed by experienced TEFL teachers dedicated to helping our students acquire the language skills needed for academic achievement.
Our ESOL support can be divided into three distinct areas:

Intensive English Course
All overseas students are encouraged to participate in sporting activities; attend school and house meetings; and to be involved in charity work, drama productions and musical performances. We also organise a variety of excursions to places of cultural and historic interest to ensure that all pupils receive a taste of British life.
Diversity is celebrated, however, we are well aware that many parents choose to send their children to school in the UK so that they can fully experience British life; we therefore limit our number of overseas pupils to a maximum of eight per cent of the total school population.
Currently Sibford is home to pupils from China, Germany, Hong Kong, Iran, Nigeria, Spain, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand.
Admissions Procedure
Sibford School does not have an entrance exam. Admission decisions for overseas students are based on a report supplied by the student’s current school/college and completion of our English Language Test.
Generally overseas students join Sibford School at the start of the UK academic year in September although some students join the school in January. Typically these students will take the Intensive English Course prior to commencing GCSE or A Level courses. Having the opportunity to settle in to life at an English boarding school, prior to commencing exam studies, can make a huge difference to final grades.
Applications may be submitted at any point in the academic year. Anyone wishing to visit the school is most welcome. We are also happy to answer questions by telephone and/or email.
