FILM TO PREMIER IN YORK

too much

July 2009

A film produced by a Sibford School media student as part of her A Level Media: Communication and Production course, is to premier in York.

Too Much Too Young looks at the issues surrounding alcohol and young people.

Made by 18-year-old Lianna Pim, of Ascott Under Wychwood, the film was part-funded by a grant from QAAD ~ Quaker Action on Alcohol and Drugs ~ and will receive its first public showing at the Quaker Yearly Meeting Gathering which takes place at York University from July 25 to August 1.

Sibford head, Michael Goodwin, who will be representing the school at the Gathering, said: “Lianna has done an amazing job with this film. She has approached the subject matter in a professional and sensitive manner and has produced a documentary style film that would happily sit alongside any produced by a professional TV company.”

Helena Chambers, director of QAAD, added: “We were given a legacy for work with young people around the issue of alcohol. We discussed some possibilities with Sibford School, who suggested we could help fund some of the equipment needed to produce this film and, following a meeting with Lianna, at which she put forward her proposals, we were glad to give our support to it.

“Having seen an early cut of the film I know that it is very much in the spirit of the legator in that it’s informative about the risks alcohol can pose but it doesn’t alienate or preach.

“We have been delighted to work in conjunction with Lianna and hope that we will be able to find ways of using this film on a much wider basis among other schools and young people in the near future.”
