NEW SIXTH FORM CENTRE OPENS AT SIBFORD
October 2008
A new centre for the exclusive use of sixth form students has officially opened at Sibford School near Banbury.
The centre includes a study suite, complete with internet enabled study carols; a conference room, careers office, dedicated teaching areas and a student lounge.
Sibford School’s youngest pupil, four-year-old Elena Swift joined head girl Chloe Ferguson to cut the ribbon to declare the new centre officially opened.
Other guests at the opening ceremony included former science teacher and house master Tony Skeath, who retired in July 2008 after 34 years service; former pupil Mike Finch, representing the Sibford Old Scholars’ Association; and chair of the school committee Judith Weeks.
Sibford head, Michael Goodwin, said: “These new facilities will enable us to deliver better support to our sixth form students. Sixth form life can be very hard work and so it is only right that we provide top class facilities for study and research, as well the space and surroundings for our students to relax and socialise.
“My thanks go to our head and assistant head of sixth form, Mary Memarzia and Angy Bovill, for all the work they have put in to this project and also to our dedicated maintenance team for the many hours they have spent ensuring that this centre came to fruition.”
Sibford head boy, Jonathan Prestige added: “The new centre is fantastic. It provides us with a focused and productive working environment while at the same time offering a friendly, relaxed atmosphere which echoes that already established in the school as a whole.”
