PUPILS GIVE UP SUMMER HOLIDAY TO HOST KIDS CAMP
August 2008
Senior pupils from Sibford School have given up part of their summer break to provide a one-to-one care holiday for children from inner city London.
Twelve youngsters from Phoenix School in Bow, all of whom have severe learning difficulties, spent three days enjoying Kids Camp at the Quaker run school near Banbury.
Activities included swimming, orienteering and sports. The youngsters were also taken on visits including a trip to Cotswold Wild Life Park.
The Phoenix Kids Camp has been running at Sibford School since 1974 during which time more than 600 children have benefited from the event. Funding for the camp is raised through a biennial sponsored walk organised by Sibford pupils.
Said Stewart Harris, head of Phoenix School: “Pupils at Phoenix often talk about their time at Kids Camp. It is a wonderful opportunity for them to get out of London and experience a country environment. It gives them the chance to make relationships with the Sibford students and to get that special attention which is so often lacking in their lives.”
