July 2009

Sibford School finished the term on a high after receiving its fourth commendation of the year … this time for its early years provision.

The school near Banbury, which has pupils from the age of four through to 18, has been congratulated on providing its youngest pupils with a learning experience that is ‘enjoyable’ and where ‘individual needs are met’.

The report, entitled ‘The effectiveness of the early years foundation stage’, says that pupils: “make very good progress during the course of the year in their learning and development and are motivated by the milestones they achieve.”

It adds: “The strong focus on free choice activities enables children to explore their own avenues of enquiry. The children have a good understanding of how to stay safe, demonstrate high levels of enjoyment in class and take pride in their work.”

Michael Goodwin, head of Sibford School, said: “This has been a great year for Sibford School and the early years report is the icing on the cake. My congratulations go to all our junior school staff but especially to our early years teacher, Clair Henebury.”

Sibford School has undergone four inspections this year, all of which have given the school top marks.

The Independent Schools Inspectorate rated the senior school as ‘outstanding’ or ‘good’ in all areas. An Ofsted Inspection Report for Boarding School also rated the school as ‘outstanding’ and ‘good’ and CReSTeD, the Council for the Registration of Schools Teaching Dyslexic Pupils, praised the school for providing ‘high quality education’ and for enabling dyslexic pupils to ‘reach their full potential and to integrate seamlessly into the mainstream.’
