PARENTS SHARE CAREER SECRETS
January 2012

Parents of pupils at Sibford School near Banbury are helping students plan their next step by offering a range of careers talks.
The career forums are being organised in response to pupil requests to find out more about a number of different job options ranging from journalism to engineering and acting to veterinary surgery.
Sibford School director of studies, Anna Jo Lawrence, explained: “We thought it would be good to invite people into school from the different sectors so that students would have the opportunity to ask them about what they do, the route they took to get there and to find out what today’s employers really want.
“However, rather than approach different industries directly we looked closer to home to see if any of our parents could help. The response has been amazing and we’re very grateful that they are willing to share in this way.”
The first career forum took place on Friday (20 January) when actor Richard Katz, father of Year 9 pupil Martha, spoke about his stage career. Richard has worked extensively for television and radio and in 2011 appeared at the Roundhouse in London with the Royal Shakespeare Company playing Touchstone in ‘As You Like It’ and Lord Capulet in ‘Romeo and Juliet’.
Future forums will focus on careers in human resources, engineering, chartered surveying, corporate finance, construction, the veterinary profession, architecture, art and design and journalism.
