PUPILS JOIN THE BIG TIDY UP
November 2009

Pupils at Sibford School near Banbury joined schools across the country on Thursday to take part in Britain’s biggest ever litter pick.
As part of the Big Tidy Up campaign, organised by Keep Britain Tidy, schools up and down the UK were encouraged to perform a 60-Minute Makeover.
Sibford School pupils, who are currently working towards the coveted Eco-Schools Green Flag Award, donned tabards and gloves and collected five sacks of litter from in and around the school campus.
The litter pick is the latest in a number of eco-centred events taking place at Sibford. Pupils have been attempting to reduce the use of electricity in school by organising ‘Switching On to Switching Off’ and ‘Say No to Standby’ campaigns. They also received a visit from the Energy Bus and attended workshops on sustainable housing.
Sibford School, which currently has Silver Eco-Schools status, hopes to achieve Green Flag Status by April 2010. Currently, of the 12,994 schools registered with Eco-Schools less than 1,000 schools across the UK have reached this standard.
