PALACE DRAMA
May 2009

A-level drama students from Sibford School near Banbury staged a performance with a difference when they visited Blenheim Palace in Woodstock.
As part of their exam syllabus the pupils had to create a piece of theatre based on a figure from the local community and perform it in a public venue.
The students chose the notorious 17th century highwayman, Claude Duval – reputed to haunt the Holt Hotel in Steeple Aston – and were amazed when they were granted permission from the Duke of Marlborough’s office allowing them to perform their production in the grounds and buildings of the Palace.
Said Head of Drama Maria Jackson: “Blenheim Palace provided us with a wonderful location. It was a privilege to perform in such an historic and atmospheric place and undoubtedly added an authentic element to the piece.
“The pupils certainly rose to the occasion and the performance was a real success.”
