STUDENTS STRIKE GOLD
May 2011

Two students at Sibford School near Banbury have struck gold after completing the highest level in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award programme.
Helen Thain and Patrick Reckitt have gained the prestigious Gold Award and are now looking forward to their Palace presentation in the next few months.
Mike Spring, DofE leader at Sibford School said: “The dedication and determination that these two students have shown has been fantastic. They have both worked extremely hard and are great ambassadors to our younger pupils who are just starting out on their Bronze Awards.”
As part of the programme Helen sailed from Lowestoft to Amsterdam. Patrick, meanwhile, spent a month in the Arctic with the British Schools Exploring Society.
They pair also undertook voluntary work in the community … Patrick helping with the Fielding Day Centre, which provides lunch and social companionship for senior citizens, and Helen running a cookery club for junior children.
Sibford head, Michael Goodwin, said: ‘The Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award is a great challenge and it is a credit Helen and Patrick that they were able to balance the demands of their studies with a commitment to achieving this award.”
