PUPILS CHARITY BONANZA
July 2008
Year 9 pupils at Sibford School near Banbury ended their summer term by sleeping rough in the school grounds to raise money for BYHP ... the Banbury Young Homeless Project.
BYHP has been Sibford’s adopted charity for the past year and the sleep out represented the final challenge. Said form tutor Mike Spring: “It seemed a fitting way to end the term and to raise further funds and awareness for this utterly worthwhile organisation.”
The sleep out raised more than £300 which brings the total collected for BYHP over the last 12 months to in excess of £3,000.
Meanwhile, Year 8 pupils at the school have clubbed together to buy a community tap for villagers in Nigeria. Headed by form tutor Nicola Patterson, the youngsters held a sponsored fancy dress cross country run, fashion show and cake sale to help fund the tap which was purchased through the Christian Aid ‘Present Aid’ initiative.
And in a further boost to charity funds, sales of plants grown by the school horticultural department raised £1,000 to buy a water harvest system for families living in Mbarara in Uganda.
Said Sibford head Michael Goodwin: “I believe it is really important that as a school community we take time to help those less fortunate then ourselves. The support shown by our pupils over the past school year for various causes, both at home and abroad, has been fantastic.”
