SIBFORD SEES RISE IN PUPILS GAINING TOP GRADES AT A LEVEL
August 2008
Sibford School near Banbury has seen a rise in the number of pupils gaining top grades at A Level.
Results out today show that out of 31 students who took the exams, 45% gained A and B grades compared to 36% in 2007.
Former head girl Jenny Guy gained three straight As in Biology, Physics and Chemistry. While Henry Grigg also achieved the triple with A grades in Religious Studies, Media and English.
English students showed particular strength scoring a 100% pass rate of five A grades (four gained by boys) and one B grade.
There was also strong success for Media students with two of the eight candidates scoring some of the highest overall marks in the country (see separate story).
Sibford’s overall pass rate at A-E was 98%.
Said Sibford head Michael Goodwin: “At Sibford we pride ourselves in taking pupils with a widespread of abilities and making excellent progress for each one.
“That said, I am especially delighted that we have so many students who have gained A or B grades this year. It is also good to see that we have bucked the trend … with boys doing exceptionally well in English and Jenny Guy gaining three A grades in the sciences … traditionally thought of as a male dominated subjected, particularly at the higher level.”
