When it comes to choosing a school it is important that both the child and parents are involved in the decision making process. Do take the opportunity to come and visit us, to see the facilities we have to offer and to meet with staff and pupils.
Entrance procedures...
Senior School
Once an application has been received your child will be invited for assessment. Typically this will take the form of an interview with the head, Michael Goodwin, followed by a half day taster session where your child will get the opportunity to see what goes on in the classrooms. Assessments will be conducted in the afternoon. We use on-line CATs (Cognitive Ability Tests) to measure the three principle areas of reasoning:
verbal,
non-verbal and
numerical
and to ensure that each child will be able to operate within a mainstream curriculum. At the end of the day prospective pupils and their parents will have the opportunity to gather in the library to ask questions.
Sixth Form
Unless undertaking a vocational course, entry to Sibford Sixth From would be dependant on the student achieving 5A*~ C grades at GCSE. We would also expect prospective students to produce a piece of free writing and to have an interview with the head Michael Goodwin and head of sixth form Mary Memarzia. Pupils from other schools thinking of entering Sibford sixth form would be invited to join us for a taster day.
Junior School
Usually children looking to join the Junior School are invited into the school for two days. The first is spent enabling the children to get to know their prospective classmates, their teachers and the routine of the school day. During their second day, children are assessed to test their level of reading, spelling, ability in mathematics, and their logical reasoning through a non-verbal test.
